Reason why I bought this car
My Proton Satria was purchased by my dad in 2002, originally driven by my sister before I took over the expenses after graduation.
Reason why I chose this car
The car was chosen by my sister and father. During that era Proton Satria was the trending vehicle for university students due to a sporty design and smooth driving experience. When I took over the vehicle I was actually planning to purchase a new car… However I fell in love with the Satria due to its reliability, fun to drive and low maintenance cost which suits my character.
User Experience
I already done 245,000++ KM
After taking over the vehicle I more than doubled the mileage as I love to travel and enjoy driving this vehicle. I considered getting a brand new vehicle however after studying about cars and driving other models I couldn't find a suitable vehicle within my budget that really compares to my Satria. Plus I really enjoy the loan freedom as I am able to spend it on other necessities.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Nice to drive especially around sharp corners compared to new affordable vehicle
- Easy to get affordable spare parts
- 2 door vehicle feel very comfortable especially for couple
- Look very humble, when buying fruit on kampung roads can bargain low price due to driving an old car
- Fuel efficient 11-13km per liter (same with current proton)
- Powerful air-conditioning and last long (I only do major repair after 17years for air-conditioning)
- Powerful dan incredible sounds system (JVC audio set)
Cons
- 90s design vehicle
- The older it gets, the more attention it requires and visit to workshop more regularly
- Power window lifespan 2-3 years (original part)

Summary
It is a humble looking & reliable vehicle. For the past 7 years I feel attached to the vehicle as I have many memories of trips using this vehicle. Major breakdown while driving only happened after 18 years, proving how reliable the old Proton models are. With good handling performance especially when taking sharp corners makes it hard to let go of this car.
Some interesting events
For the past few months, breakdowns have happened quite frequently which required some major repairs. The hard part of driving old vehicles are the lack of spare parts such as gearbox and engine. Somehow I have a feeling like my car wants to retire by the end of this year.
